Erienet IMAP Mail Services

Erienet is pleased to announce that we are now using IMAP Mail Services for users using Netscape Communicator 4.5 or above.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is the next generation Internet protocol for retrieving mail from a server. It replaces the POP3 mail protocol, which requires mail to be stored locally on the client. Unlike POP3, IMAP4 allows mail messages to be left and managed on the mail server, which ensures that users who log into different machines will still be able to access all of their emails. It also allows users to view messages with large attachments without downloading unwanted attachments.

The biggest change you will notice, is that when you click delete to remove a message, it marks it with a Red X instead of moving to the Trash. This is done so that you can clearly see which files you have marked for deletion. If you change your mind, just highlight the message again and click delete to unmark the message for deletion. When you are ready to actually remove the message from the server, just open the File menu and choose Compact Folders.

Additional assistance for Communicator may be accessed by pressing F1 for help.
