Large Email Message Retrieval



If your email program seems to be stuck or is stuck at Receiving Message X of X, someone has sent you a large email message.

This occurs with email programs that are using POP mail services. If someone has sent you a large email message, you need need to wait for the entire mail message to download to your computer, there is nothing wrong with your email settings or with your Erienet mailbox. This happens whenever someone emails a large attachment to you ( a picture, sound file, etc..)
 
 

We recommend that all users download and install Netscape Communicator from the Erienet Technical Support Website and configure it as per our setup instructions. We now support IMAP mail services for Netscape Communicator which eliminates this type of situation that occurs with POP mail services. 

Windows 95/98 users should print out the "Windows 95/98 Connection Instructions" that are posted on the Erienet Technical Support Website and follow Steps 7, 8, and 9. 

Windows Me users should print out the "Windows Me Connection Instructions" that are posted on the Erienet Technical Support Website and follow Steps 7, 8, and 9. 

MacIntosh users should download Netscape Communicator from the Erienet Technical Support Website under the heading "Internet Programs for MacIntosh" and follow the instructions that are posted for "Configuring Communicator". 


If you are using Netscape Navigator for your email and do not wish to upgrade to Netscape Communicator, you can set the Maximum Message Size in your preferences to keep Netscape from downloading the entire "Large" email until you choose to download it.

Do the following:

Open Netscape.

Now go to Options in the menu and choose Mail and News Preferences and then Servers. Set the following:

Check "Size:" and set the size to: 500KB

Click OK
 

Whenever you retrieve your email and have an email with a large file, you
will see a box:

                  Truncated!
This message exceeded the Maximum Message Size set in
Preferences, so we have only downloaded the first few lines
from the mail server.

Click here to download the rest of the message.

You can now choose to download the rest of the email message.
 

To remove the actual message from our server you must either:
 

1) Download the rest of the message.

or

2) Move the Truncated message to the Trash, empty your Trash, recheck your mail to remove the message from the server.

This will remove the large message from the server. If you do not download the rest of the message or do #2 to remove from the server, the message will stay in your mailbox on the server and WILL delay retrieval of email messages in the future.
