You will be modifying your MacTCP and ConfigPPP
Open MacTCP. Select the PPP icon. Change the IP Address field so it looks like this:
Next click on the More... button and configure MacTCP like below. All you have to do is click on the Server button at the top left, and set up the Gateway Address and Domain and IP Address at the bottom of the window (don't change the IP Address info at the top right):
Now close MacTCP and open the ConfigPPP control panel; old users you shouldn't need to make any changes to the first dialog box. If this is your first time, click on New... and type erienet.net, etc.:
Click on the Config... button; the only item that changes on the next dialog box is our phone number, which is 18773278596 The Modem Init string I use is very typical for 28.8K modems (if you have a 14.4K leave this blank or try AT&F):
Now click on the Connect Script... button. Copy this carefully, either putting in your own name and password (if your MacPPP is version 2.0.1) or entering placeholders as shown here (only MacPPP 2.2.0 or later). Click on OK when done:
Now click on LCP Options...,

Changing the IPCP Options... is very very important:
Whenever you want to connect to Erienet just go to the ConfigPPP control panel and select OPEN.
The sequence of windows you see during connection follows:
First the modem dials. If it gets stuck here either you need a different init string (AT&F1 is good for Supra and Platinum 28.8s), or you do not have a dial-tone (typical of hotels and live-demos), or try setting the port speed very low (14.4K, typical of PowerBook internal modems), or you need a better cable.
If your session dies here either you typed Login or Password instead of ogin or assword - we did this on purpose, it is not a typo. Or you have not selected the CR boxes on the 2nd and 4th lines of your Connect Script.
The following window appears only if you use the $USERID$ and $PASSWORD$ placeholders in your Connect Script (highly recommended for security reasons - upgrade to MacPPP 2.2.0 ASAP).
If you get stuck here or your modem disconnects right after the next window then either your userid or password are wrong (they are case-sensitive, or make sure your Connect Script placeholders are correct ($USERID$, not $USERNAME$), or the Gateway in MacPPP is not set to 0.0.0.0.
After a successful connection you will see a smiley face and the words PPP UP at the top left of this window. When you are done, use the Hard Close button to close the connection.
