How To Check Your Email While Away

The easiest way to check your email while away, without installing an email program on someone else's computer is to use one of our webmail services or to telnet into our server and use the program 'pine'. You can also use these instructions to check your mailbox on the server to delete any large messages you do not want to download to your computer.

Erienet has 2 different webmail services, they are located at:

http://webmail.erienet.net

or

http://erienet.net/webmail

or

You can also telnet directly into the Erienet server and use the pine program.
You will need a telnet program to do this.

Windows 95/98

Windows 95/98 comes with a built-in Telnet client ... you don't have to download one!

Click on the Start button, and then click on Run.

Type in 'telnet erienet.net' hit OK or ENTER.

NOTE: The telnet program in Windows95 has a bug that doesn't always maximize the telnet screen. To fix this, click on the lower right and corner of the telnet screen and pull the windows open.

Windows 3.x

You'll need to download EWAN Telnet for Windows 3.1 if you do not have it already.

You can download EWAN from here: http://downloads.erienet.net/pub/windows/telnet/ewan1052.zip

When you have finished downloading and installing EWAN, click here to continue. You will want to connect to erienet.net

Using the 'pine' program on our server

Once you have connected to erienet.net, you should receive the following text:

NOTE: Replace the name howard with YOUR username.

UNIX(r) System V Release 4.0 (aurora)

login: howard
Password:

At the login: prompt, enter your username. If your email address is howard@erienet.net your username is howard. Make sure you type this in lower case as shown.

At the Password: prompt, enter your password. It won't be echoed back (you won't see yourself typing the password in).

Now use the command pine, see the example below:

13:45:12:~$> pine

Type only the command "pine", do not type out the prompt "~$>".
At this point, just follow the instructions on the screen.
